IB Resources for Parents

What is the International Baccalaureate (IB) Program?

The International Baccalaureate (IB) is a globally recognized education program that focuses on developing inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who are motivated to succeed. IB programs challenge students to think critically, be open-minded, and take ownership of their learning while developing strong academic and personal skills.

At PS 287, we are proud to incorporate IB principles into our curriculum, fostering a love for learning and preparing students for success in a rapidly changing world.

IB Learner Profile

The IB program is built around the IB Learner Profile, which encourages students to be:

  • Inquirers

  • Knowledgeable

  • Thinkers

  • Communicators

  • Principled

  • Open-minded

  • Caring

  • Risk-takers

  • Balanced

  • Reflective

These attributes help students grow academically, socially, and emotionally, preparing them to be global citizens.

How Can Parents Support Their Child in the IB Program?

  • Support Critical Thinking: Engage your child in discussions about real-world issues.

  • Promote Reflection: Encourage your child to think about what they learned and how they can improve.
